Exploring the Roots, Narrating the Future
1. Aims and Scope
JINDIS (Journal of Indigenous Islam) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal committed to exploring the diverse manifestations of Islam rooted in local cultures, historical memories, and indigenous epistemologies. The journal welcomes rigorous scholarly contributions across disciplines—anthropology, philology, religious studies, sociology, and decolonial studies—that critically engage with indigenous Islamic practices and thoughts, particularly from Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and other local Muslim contexts. Our aim is to build a globally relevant yet locally grounded archive of Islamic scholarship.
2. Editorial Board and Review Process
JINDIS maintains an international and interdisciplinary editorial board consisting of scholars and experts from various fields and regions. All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process by at least two independent reviewers. The editorial team ensures the integrity, objectivity, and timeliness of the review process and may provide constructive feedback for revision and improvement.
3. Open Access Policy
JINDIS provides immediate and free access to all published content, promoting knowledge dissemination and equity in scholarly communication. Authors retain copyright of their work under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided the original work is properly cited.
4. Publication Frequency
JINDIS is published biannually (two issues per year) in June and December. The journal adheres to a strict publication schedule and commits to maintaining consistency and punctuality in every issue.
5. Language Policy
The journal publishes articles in English to ensure broad accessibility and international reach. Authors are strongly advised to ensure linguistic quality before submission. Manuscripts may be returned for language improvement prior to peer review.
6. Ethical Publishing and Plagiarism Policy

Manuscripts are checked using reliable plagiarism detection software before being sent for review. Authors are required to declare any conflicts of interest and must adhere to responsible research and publication practices.
