Editorial Procedures and Peer-Review Process

Initial Screening

Every manuscript submitted to Journal of Indigenous Islam (JINDIS) undergoes an initial assessment by the Managing Editor to ensure adherence to the journal’s ethical standards and author guidelines. Submissions that fail to meet these requirements or fall outside the journal's scope will be rejected without being sent for peer review. Manuscripts with improper formatting will be returned to the authors for correction and resubmission. Once a manuscript passes this stage, the Managing Editor consults the Editor-in-Chief or Editors to evaluate its scientific merit and relevance. No assessment of the manuscript’s potential impact is made at this point. All rejection decisions must be confirmed by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors receive an acknowledgment of their submission within 12 to 24 hours.

Peer-Review Process

If a manuscript clears the initial screening, it is forwarded to at least two independent reviewers under a double-blind peer-review process, ensuring anonymity between authors and reviewers. Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise and may include members of the Editorial Board. The journal strictly avoids conflicts of interest, including recent co-authorship (within three years), current institutional affiliation, supervisory relationships, financial interests, or close personal ties.

Peer review typically takes no more than six weeks.

Editorial Decision and Revisions

Each manuscript receives at least two evaluations. Based on the reviewers’ feedback, the editorial team will inform the authors of one of the following decisions:

  • Accepted: The manuscript meets all requirements and moves forward to the copyediting stage.

  • Minor Revisions: The article is accepted pending small changes; authors have one week to revise.

  • Major Revisions (Resubmission): Significant changes are required, and authors must submit a detailed response to reviewer comments. A maximum of three weeks is given for this stage, after which the paper may be sent again to reviewers.

  • Rejected: The article is not suitable due to fundamental flaws or lack of contribution. Authors may resubmit only if additional research is conducted.

Authors are required to address all reviewer comments point by point. Disagreements must be supported with reasoned responses.

Appeal Process

Authors who wish to appeal a rejection must send a formal request to the Managing Editor with detailed justifications and responses to the editorial and reviewer comments. The appeal will be forwarded to a senior editor or Editorial Board member, who will review the case and advise whether the appeal merits further consideration or if the rejection stands. All appeal decisions are final.

Production and Publication

Once accepted, manuscripts go through a professional production process including copyediting, English language editing, author proofreading, and final corrections before publication on the journal’s website. Printed versions of the journal are typically released within one to two weeks after the online publication.

Post-Publication Corrections

Corrections to the published version can only be requested by the author or corresponding author within one week of online publication, and only in the case of substantial or critical changes. See the journal’s policy on post-publication corrections for full details.
